Install Tessero

Add Tessero to your PHP project: fully verified NumPy and SciPy parity, native PHP with no Python in the loop, and BLAS-class linear algebra. Pick a backend: the FFI package loads the C kernel at runtime, the native extension compiles it into PHP, and Laravel gets a dedicated bridge.

Tessero is not on Packagist yet and has no tagged release, so there are no prebuilt binaries. These commands install the main branch from the public repository and compile the kernel on your machine.

Tessero needs PHP 8.2+ on a 64-bit platform. Both backends run the same C kernel and return identical numbers, so your choice is about packaging, not results. Dense matmul routes through OpenBLAS for BLAS-class performance, identical on both backends. Choose one backend (or install both, the Laravel package uses the extension when it is loaded and falls back to FFI):

FFI package

Composer fetches the source from GitHub, then vendor/bin/tessero build compiles libtessero for your machine.

Facade, Eloquent casts, validation, Octane-safe. The bridge ships inside tessero/tessero and is auto-discovered; it has no separate package yet.

Requirements at a glance

  • PHP 8.2 to 8.5, 64-bit, at a security-patched release: 8.2.35, 8.3.36, 8.4.27, 8.5.12 or newer on its branch. Composer, the FFI loader and the extension all refuse older releases.
  • Building the kernel: make, a C and C++ compiler (GCC 9+ or Clang 12+ on Linux, Apple Clang on macOS, MinGW-w64 on Windows) and the BLAS and LAPACKE development files.
  • FFI package: ext-ffi (bundled with PHP, ffi.enable=1 on the CLI, or preload for PHP-FPM) and a libtessero built for your platform.
  • Linear algebra: an LP64 OpenBLAS with LAPACKE (ILP64 builds are refused, they would silently truncate indices).
  • Native extension: phpize, make and a C compiler.

Verify anytime: vendor/bin/tessero doctor reports your PHP version, FFI state, the detected binary and SIMD level (AVX2 / AVX-512 / NEON), OpenMP, and whether an LP64 OpenBLAS with LAPACKE was found, each failing line says exactly what to install.
